Since the COVID-19 community quarantine began in mid-March 2020, I had been looking for grocery delivery services that could reach our area. Thankfully, I found four that were servicing Cainta, Rizal:

Below I have listed key information on these stores’ service areas, payment options, and contact details. I ordered a few ordering tips as well.

I also included other stores that offer grocery, produce, or medicine deliveries: Pacific Bay, Watsons, MedExpress, Veggies for Good, M4Ester Pork & Meat Dealer, and Oh My Gulay. I haven’t tried ordering from them, but they either had good online reviews or were quick to respond to my inquiries.

Notes & tips:

  • Getting a delivery slot during the extended community quarantine period had been quite a challenge. According to WalterMart’s April 16 Facebook post, delivery slots open at 10am daily. In my experience though, slots fill up so fast. You may want to finalize your shopping cart contents, bookmark the page, and check for delivery slots regularly. This way,  you can quickly get a delivery schedule and begin the checkout process once a slot becomes available.
  • Not every item you put in your cart will be in stock during your delivery schedule. Help WalterMart’s staff select substitutes by indicating if you want them to choose:
    • the best comparable product;
    • the same brand (but a different size);
    • the same size (but a different brand);
    • the same price (can be a different brand and/or size); or
    • not to look for a replacement.

WalterMart allows customers to choose a substitution option.

  • Be patient. Due to the influx of orders and other limitations, there can be difficulties fulfilling all orders on time. In our case, the delivery was delayed for a day. But I loved how WalterMart handled this: They texted and emailed us to give us a heads-up about the late delivery. Then they kept as posted on the new delivery schedule.

Service areas:

  • Metro Manila: Makati, Taguig, Pasay, Caloocan, Las Pinas, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Pasig, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan
  • Rizal: Cainta, Antipolo, Montalban

Payment options: cash on delivery, credit & debit cards

How to order:

  • Go to their website and select your delivery location (city/municipality).

To use MetroMart, you must first select your delivery location. They service Metro Manila and parts of Rizal Province (Cainta, Antipolo, and Montalban).

  • Then type your street name or a landmark near your home to set the delivery address.
  • In the next window, select a store. The available stores will vary per location. Cainta residents, for example, can order from Robinsons Supermarket Pasig, S&R Libis, and SouthStar Drug.

MetroMart store options vary per location.

  • After selecting a store, you can start adding your orders.
  • Once you’re done shopping, proceed to checkout. Provide your complete delivery address, mobile number, preferred delivery date and time, and payment option.
  • You will receive a confirmation email and you can also track your orders online. Aside from these, the shopper and/or driver will contact you if there are concerns and when your items are ready for delivery.

Minimum purchase requirement:  This varies per store. For instance, the minimum requirement for Robinsons Supermarket and S&R is Php1,000, and Php500 for SouthStar Drug.

To be able to proceed to checkout, you need to meet the minimum purchase requirement for your selected store(s).

  • You will be charged a delivery fee and a shopping fee. In the example below (Robinsons Supermarket Pasig), the shopping fee is Php320 and the delivery fee is Php100.
  • If you don’t have an S&R membership card but have ordered items from S&R, you will be charged a 5-percent privilege fee. If you are an S&R cardholder, you can have the privilege fee waived by going to your MetroMart dashboard — My Account — S&R Membership and enter your card number.

MetroMart fees include shopping and delivery fees.

To waive the S&R privilege fee, members can go to their account and enter their membership card number.

Notes & tips:

  • If you need the items ASAP, I suggest that you first check if delivery slots are available for your preferred store. To do this, fill up your cart with anything (ex., 20 kilos of rice) so you can quickly reach the minimum purchase requirement and go to the checkout page, where you can view the delivery slots.  If there are open slots, just click the back button/arrow so you can return to your cart and continue shopping. If no slots are open, move on to another store or online delivery service.
  • Not all items you order will be available. In our case, the shopper called to inform us which items were no longer in stock.
  • You can either buy everything from one store or shop from multiple stores. Note that ordering from multiple stores will incur additional shopping and delivery fees.

Notes & tips:

  • They sell vegetables, fruits, set vegetables, eggs, salted eggs, and home-made products like chocolate bars, chili oil, chili flakes, sugarcane vinegar, and fried garlic.
  • They can deliver your orders the following day.
  • Many items are sold per kilo or as whole pieces. Unless your household can easily consume a kilo each of tomato, eggplant, or calamansi or a whole squash, you may want to order set veggies instead or ask your friendly neighbors if they want to split the orders. Alternatively, you can always share some items with those who need help getting through this pandemic.

  • When you’re done shopping, click on your shopping cart. Under “Platform Voucher,” click “Select or Enter Code” on the lower right and select a voucher. (As of this writing, clients can use vouchers to get a Php60 discount on shipping fees.) Then click “Checkout.”
  • In the checkout page, indicate your delivery address and select your preferred payment method. Also, check the expected delivery date and make sure you are okay with this. If you need the item soon, consider checking other online delivery stores instead.
  • Click “Place Order.”

Minimum purchase requirement: None

Notes & tips:

  • As mentioned above, there may be delivery delays/issues. So I opted to use Shopee Mart for items that could wait for a week or longer, such as juices and extra dog food.
  • Having said that, not all deliveries were delayed. Two of the sellers shipped the items ahead of schedule. The third seller, however, failed to ship the items on time, and it seemed like Shopee’s system automatically cancelled the order.
  • If you order from different Shopee Mall sellers, your items might be delivered in batches since each vendor would be shipping the items separately. The good thing is you only pay one shipping fee.
  • Shopee’s refund and return process is explained on this page.
